NEW YORK, NY — October 22, 2014 — The Open Space Institute joined with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey and the Black Rock Forest Preserve in announcing the largest ever conservation easement in the Hudson Highlands. The easement on 3,777 acres of mountainous, undeveloped land was purchased by OSI from the Black Rock Forest Consortium and then donated to the state of New York, expanding public access in the area between Storm King and Schunnemunk State Parks. The large-scale transaction builds on successful partnerships within the community and continues OSI’s decades-long commitment to preserving this majestic landscape.
