In the Southeast, 2022 has been the Open Space Institute’s most extraordinary year since opening its Charleston office less than a decade ago. OSI secured more than 11,500 acres that will become new public parks, wildlife areas, and state forests.

Among the momentous conservation victories in 2022 was the protection of one of South Carolina's last remaining undeveloped barrier islands, and 7,300 acres of Buckfield Plantation through a joint effort with The Nature Conservancy.
