The OSI-led Black River Initiative is a 70-mile-long riverine network of 12 local, state, and private parks united by a recreational water trail along the Black River between the towns of Kingstree and Georgetown.

This multi-year collaborative effort aims to reconnect rural Williamsburg and Georgetown County residents to the State Scenic Black River, provide critical flood mitigation, and boost local tourism.

The effort also includes South Carolina’s first new state park in nearly 20 years, the state’s first-ever riverine park, and the first state park in this majority-Black region of the state.

When complete, the Black River Initiative will create exciting and transformative public access opportunities within 100 miles of 40 percent of the state’s population and an easy hour's drive from tourist meccas such as Charleston and Myrtle Beach.
