Each of the landscapes where the Open Space Institute works has its own story, with histories that intersect different geologies, habitats and human lives. Now, OSI has unveiled a multimedia Story Map, harnessing the power of maps, narratives and video to capture some of these histories on one of our treasured landscapes: the Southern Cumberland Plateau.
'Saving the Southern Cumberlands' Story Map
With only 10 percent of the Southern Cumberland Plateau is permanently protected, the Open Space Institute and other committed conservation organizations are leading the charge to protect it, before it's too late.
A flat-topped mountain that once was the bed of an ancient ocean floor, the Southern Cumberland Plateau today supports some of the most geologically unique habitat in North America — yet only 10 percent of the Plateau is protected. OSI, working through its Resilient Landscapes Fund, Southern Cumberland Plateau Land Protection Fund, and Appalachian Landscapes Protection Fund, is busy saving the land, before it is too late.
The Story Map is best viewed with high-speed Internet.
